Houston Utilities Set Up

Moving into a new home is an exciting time, but it also means you’ll need to set up your Utilities. Here’s a short guide designed to make that process as easy as possible for you.

Gas

Setting up gas service for your home can be done through Centerpoint Energy, via their website at centerpointenergy.com or by calling them at 713.659.2111.

Water

To set up water service for your home you’ll likely need to contact the City of Houston by visiting houstonwaterbills.houstontx.gov or by calling 713.371.1400. However, if you’re moving into one of the smaller cities that are part of the Houston Metro area (Bellaire, West University Place, etc.), you may be able to set up your water service through those localities.

Electricity

Unlike with gas and water, with electricity service for your home, you will be able to select the provider. There are many different options to choose from and a few different sites that are designed to help you browse different rates and providers. To get started, visit powertochoose.com, shoptexaselectricity.com, or centerpointenergy.force.com.

Garbage Collection

You’ll want to check with your Realtor, Landlord, or Property manager regarding garbage collection as it can vary by neighborhood. If the city of Houston handles your garbage collection, you can set it up when you are setting up your Water and Sewer account. Again, this can be done through houstonwaterbills.houstontx.gov or by calling 713.371.1400.

TV/Internet/Phone

AT&T and Xfinity are the primary internet, phone and cable TV providers in Houston. U-verse service with AT&T can be set up via att.com/shop or by calling 844.827.7057. Xfinity service can be set up via xfinityoffers.com/texas/harris/houston or by calling 844.732.2128. Satellite TV is available from Dish Network and DirectTV.

There are also services available like Allconnect which provide a one-stop shop for utilities and can help you receive a discount.

The Art Guys

Star actively works to elevate the arts in Houston alongside her husband, Jack Massing, who is one half of the famed art-duo The Art Guys. The Art Guys (Michael Galbreth, born 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Jack Massing, born 1959 in Buffalo, New York) are a collaborative artist team based in Houston, Texas. "The Art Guys have carefully crafted a presence and wacky notoriety that places them at the heart of the Houston art scene and has captured the attention of a national audience.

Driven by an insatiable curiosity, they employ a variety of media for the exploration of their ideas including drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, performance and video. The Art Guys create diverse works designed to engage, amuse and challenge viewers by seducing them with a playful sense of humor. Described in the New York Times as "a cross between Dada, David Letterman, John Cage and the Smothers Brothers",[1] The Art Guys present a blend of performance, conceptual and visual art that explores the absurdities of contemporary life. All told, The Art Guys defy categorization, they represent a kink in the art historical continuum – a hiccup, a scratch that can't be itched. They have amused, irritated, enchanted and befuddled viewers with their deadpan humor and irreverent antics. Regardless of how they are remembered in the annals of American art, their audience will never be the same."''
