a creative community in the woods

Ten minutes north of metro Houston, the world is greener, the pace slows. Here, a world-class architect has brought to life a community of striking modern homes designed for living and work. The long-awaited NoLo Studios @ Acres Homes is a new live | work concept grounded in careful consideration of every need, setting the stage for a creative life.

I wanted to design a home and community that worked for people with interesting lives, and was sensitive to the native environment. It took time and deliberation, but we found the right combination of elements.
— Francois de Menil

Standard floor plans for the homes are designed to accommodate today’s lifestyle. Using honest, straightforward and environmentally thoughtful design, the single-family residences of NoLo Studios transition seamlessly from bright, open working space into comfortable living quarters. From the naturally lit work/gallery space to the sleek kitchen, the aesthetic is simple, featuring modern materials both handsome and functional.

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.
— Annie Dillard

clean lines, open space & light

NoLo Studios integrates an experience – between indoor and outdoor, living and creating, community and individuality. Every architectural decision – from exterior siding to kitchen appliances – considered energy savings to minimize environmental and economic impact. Designed to be livable and practical, NoLo Studios offer great flexibility for customization and expansion, both today and tomorrow. Built to last by one of Houston’s premium builders, each is the investment a home should be.

Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.
— Steve Jobs

Located in the Acres Homes area of north Houston, the NoLo Studios community fits into a historic neighborhood that proudly offers a country feel within 10 minutes of the city. Residents at NoLo Studios will be surrounded by existing and additional pine, oak and sycamore trees and generous green space meandering throughout the property. Houston is known as one of the world’s most diverse cities, a place that invites its citizens to be original. Over the past 20 years, homeowners have migrated to the neighborhoods north of Houston’s 610 Loop to take advantage of the oversized lots within quick reach of the vibrant city. In Acres Homes, the result is a vital and varied community, offering stimulation, connection and opportunity against a backdrop of semi-rural living.

The high level idea is to preserve the green, rural nature of the site.
— Francois de Menil

The environment of NoLo Studios presents its own inspiration: plenty of space to think and breathe, ample room and light in the studios, and in the living space, a fresh alternative to the confines of a traditional house.

Inspiration comes of working every day.
